Eguavoen is worried about Osimhen’s absence at AFCON 2025Q, but he’s sure the rest of the team can step up

The absence of Victor Osimhen from the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya has been regretted by caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen.

A muscle issue forced Osimhen to miss the first game of the doubleheader.

Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Kelechi Iheanacho are among the players Eguavoen will need to succeed in their battle against Libya.

The manager had faith that the team’s other forwards would compensate for his benching.

While speaking with NFF TV, Eguavoen emphasized that the sport is about the team rather than the person. We are communicating; his absence will be felt; his potential is widely recognized; but, we have other players who can perform admirably in his stead.

“He may not be physically present, but I have complete faith that he is here with us in spirit.”
