The United States and Nigeria are working together to fight terrorism in the country, according to Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national publicity secretary.
On Wednesday, Morka made the comments during an appearance on Arise Television. He stated that the cooperation is aimed at putting an end to the ongoing bloodshed in Nigeria, which has caused a lot of suffering and loss of life.
His assertion is that the two nations’ joint efforts to disrupt terrorist networks in Nigeria are already well under way.
In their joint fight against terrorism, the US and Nigerian governments are working closely, according to Morka.
He went on to say that the senseless killing of innocent Nigerians is just one more way that terrorism causes hardship for the general public.
There has been “hardship, pain, and misery” visited upon his people as a result of “these horrible individuals, if they are citizens, slaughter innocent citizens for no reason,” he said.
Morka added that President Bola Tinubu will use all means necessary to bring those guilty for terrorist assaults to justice.
In response to concerns that US cooperation could pave the way for foreign military invasion, the APC spokesman denied the notion, stating that the ongoing engagement does not constitute an invasion.
The president is determined to do whatever is necessary to bring these individuals to justice, he added.
Concerns about foreign troops are understandable, but as Morka pointed out, they typically emerge when host governments are left out of decision-making.
“I get it, but there are a lot of situations where the countries whose territory these troops are entering aren’t involved in decision-making,” he stated.
He made it clear that the United States and Nigeria are not involved in this matter and that they are working together on issues.
“That is not the situation at hand. “Our government and the authorities in the United States are working together closely on this,” Morka continued.
Any actions taken on the ground, he claims, will be a reflection of the agreements made by both countries. He expressed his certainty that everything is decided upon at meetings will be implemented in practice.
Finally, he stressed that the main goal of the partnership is to ensure that the perpetrators of violence against Nigerians are firmly faced and driven out of the country.
“But the main point is that individuals who want to harm our people are confronted and severely repelled,” he stated.
