The allegation that artists were told not to have concerts in Nigeria during the Islamic month of Ramadan has concerned Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, also known as Fave.
The Baby Riddim singer expressed disappointment that her plans to host a concert in Nigeria on March 13, which is her birthday, were falling through since it coincides with Ramadan, a time when music events are supposedly forbidden.
“So I was trying to perform a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year, but they’re telling me shows aren’t allowed during Ramadan?,” she posted on her X handle. I’m not entirely clear.
The artist broke the news in another tweet that promoters had been turning down her proposed shows consecutively due to the timing of Ramadan.
She stated her Christian faith and the fact that she was unaware of Ramadan until she was in her late teens as reasons why the holy month shouldn’t have any impact on her or her company.
She expressed her frustration with the promoters who repeatedly told her team that her birthday would not be able to be used as the date for her maiden independent performance in Nigeria.
“Ramadan was completely foreign to me as a southern child until I was far into my teenage years. All faiths are valued by me. However, I would be overjoyed if you were to read this and be willing to help me organise this because I am a Christian and I truly want to celebrate my birthday in this way.
