Reality star Tope Adenibuyan, better known by his stage as Teddy A, has addressed the public fallout from false accusations of physical abuse levelled against him by his ex-wife, actress and media mogul Bamike “Bambam” Olawunmi-Adenibuyan.
During a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, Teddy A made the announcement. He characterised the accusations as baseless, startling, and extremely upsetting for his family.
He claims that accusations that he physically assaulted his pregnant wife were widely shared on social media during that time. The allegations, he added, were entirely false and had taken him and his wife by surprise. No disturbance was detected in Teddy A’s residence on the day the charges were announced, he said.
Upon waking up, I made my way downstairs to find my wife engrossed in a movie. He mentioned that she was laughing and pregnant.
He mentioned that it was only after he noticed an odd spike in phone alerts that he realised anything was amiss.
“Nothing had been posted by me. “My phone was going off the rails, and I had no idea what was popular,” he explained.
Teddy A reported that his wife experienced visible signs of mental distress and confusion while perusing the online remarks.
She asked again and again who could harm us in this way. To be honest, I had no idea where it had come from,” he continued.
He was shocked by how fast the story spread after the accusations caused extensive online conversations and conjecture, according to the ex-Big Brother Naija housemate.
He disclosed that he sought counsel from his manager upon learning of the news, but that the latter advised him to keep quiet and let the matter go away. The decision, according to Teddy A., was costly in the end because the charges followed him for years.
“The harm that would come from remaining silent was beyond my comprehension at the moment. “People still comment and ask if I beat her even now when my wife and I post photos or videos,” he claimed.
It changed the way certain people in the public saw him, he said, and it was a difficult experience. It had an impact on me because it caused people to perceive me in an inaccurate light,” he continued.
The significance of swiftly correcting false claims, the reach of social media narratives, and the lasting effects of unconfirmed accusations have all been brought up again in discussions sparked by Teddy A’s remarks.
Both Teddy A and Bambam have maintained their public unity and have refuted any allegations of domestic violence.
