There has been no distress call from Nigerians in Iran yet, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
The statement was made by NiDCOM in the midst of the continuing crisis between Iran, the US, and Israel.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously stated that it was continuing to follow the situation in the Middle East, as reported by Gistcon.
The information was revealed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the director of media and public relations at NiDCOM. He stated that although there may be Nigerians in Iran, no one had formally requested assistance from the commission.
To be clear, he was not implying that any Nigerians were present; rather, he was stating that no one had made a distress call.
He said that no airline would ever set up shop in a combat zone, thus flights to the area have been cancelled because of the continuing fighting.
People stuck at the airport could be able to be evacuated if there is a two- or three-day truce. He pointed out that it had not been done.
