The federal government’s determination to prevent terrorists from gaining control of any area of Nigeria has been underlined by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
There have been recent militant attacks in Borno State, prompting him to speak. Addressing a spate of violent incidents—including kidnappings in Ngoshe and coordinated assaults on military posts in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok—Shettima delivered the remark on Saturday.
Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, stated that Shettima had mentioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had ordered the swift and extensive mobilisation of security forces to confront the assailants and bring stability back to the impacted regions.
Light triumphs over darkness, and optimism over pessimism; the events of the previous several days serve as a sobering reminder of this fact.
A complete and rapid mobilisation of our security infrastructure has already been ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been briefed. If anyone tries to take Nigerian territory or force our people to flee, the federal government would not stand for it, Shettima said.
The VP reiterated that the government will not back down in the face of the insurgents’ “cowardly attacks” and announced the deployment of more tactical assets and reinforcements guided by intelligence to bolster continuing operations in the Northeast.
“This is more than a conflict. “We will not be intimidated by their horrific deeds; rather, we are protecting the essence of our humanity from individuals who spread poisonous hate speech,” he continued.
Shettima reiterated the government’s resolve to free kidnapped victims and promised that those responsible for the crimes will face legal consequences.
The families and courageous service members who gave their lives while on duty are in our thoughts and prayers. He made it clear that the government will not stop until the kidnapped individuals were able to return home to their families.
He went on to praise the fortitude of the people of Borno State and its government under Governor Babagana Zulum, and he lauded the commitment of the soldiers fighting insurgency on the front lines.
