Twenty students convicted of different types of exam cheating have been rusticated by the Senate of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, FUDMA, Katsina State.
Nasiru Abdul, the university’s director of information and protocol, made this announcement Thursday in a statement given to journalists in Katsina.
The decision was made during Wednesday’s 138th Regular Senate Meeting of the university, according to Abdul.
The Students’ Disciplinary Committee looked into claims of exam misconduct involving the impacted students, and he added that the Senate considered their report before reaching the conclusion.
He noted that Mohammed Khalid-Othman, the university’s vice chancellor and chairman of the senate, had stated that the move was made in accordance with the policies already in place regarding academic honesty.
According to him, the decision was reached in accordance with the university’s policy on academic misconduct and examination irregularities, Section 13.3(c).
According to Abdul, the VC praised the disciplinary committee’s hard work and dedication to enforcing university policy.
The vice chancellor remarked that the panel upheld justice, fairness, firmness, and due process during the inquiry, as he understood it.
He elaborated by saying the Senate wanted students to know how seriously they were taken when they were told to follow the regulations for exams.
The decision is made to discourage students from trying to cheat by breaking the university’s standards on exam behaviour and to convey a strong message to all students that they need to be prepared and do their best.
Earlier, he had stated that the university administration had verified that all impacted students had been granted a chance to defend themselves before the disciplinary committee’s final decision.
