This past Friday, employees of the FCT Administration were paid their January salary, according to Lere Olayinka, who is the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Of the five months’ arrears of the salary award, Olayinka noted that FCTA workers have got one month’s payment.
While criticising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for Tuesday’s protest mobilisation of workers from other sectors, he made this revelation in a statement.
A month’s payment of the five months’ arrears of the wage award was sent to FCTA staff last Friday, together with their January pay cheque, according to Olayinka.
“The salary award for two months has already been paid, and the remaining three months will be paid with the salaries for February, March, and April.
Workers from other industries, who are supposed to be at their jobs, are being mobilised by the NLC for a demonstration on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, last week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the FCTA employees whose representation the NLC is arranging the demonstration were actually at the office. Even tomorrow, you can find them at their desk.
Also, the wage award has not been implemented or has been stopped by more than 20 states. So far, the NLC has been inactive. The issue for the NLC is that the FCT is responsible for paying, and it has paid two months of the five months that are past due.
