Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a three-day ultimatum to contractors, threatening to terminate contracts if they do not remove trash from satellite towns.
During Friday’s inspection of road developments in Abuja, Wike delivered the ultimatum while visiting Karu, Bwari, Kubwa, and the Apo-Karshi corridor.
Adherence to the directive was also instructed by him to be maintained by Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, the Coordinator of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department.
The growing mounds of trash along the Orozo-Apo-Karshi road corridor were a source of concern for the minister during the inspection.
Inform the contractor that his employment will be terminated if I do not receive a response by Monday or Tuesday on this refusal.
“This cannot be tolerated. It makes you look foolish. “No one will accept this; development has taken over these areas; they are no longer villages,” Wike said.
A cleaner environment will be assured to inhabitants, the minister said, emphasising that all garbage, particularly in satellite towns, would be evacuated swiftly.
Wike warned garbage contractors on November 15, 2025, against ineptitude, political favouritism, and justifications, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the “insincerity and lack of capacity” of prior service providers was a big reason waste management was still difficult.
“Work hard and collect your pay cheque. You may forget about getting paid if you don’t put in the effort. Abolition will be the result,” the minister emphasised.
