Senator Shehu Sani, a former politician and human rights crusader, has spoken out against what he calls a racial insult to the Black people, citing a purported monkey image of former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle.
Trump, the president of the United States, has been associated with the portrayal.
Friday, Sani expressed her disapproval of the depiction, writing that it betrayed a systemic racism and was thus disrespectful and unacceptable. Her message was shared on X.
“No African president would treat a predecessor with such contempt and hostility,” he said, ignoring political variations and development levels between African nations. There has been a decline in the honour and prestige of the presidency as a result of this, he claims.
A racist affront to all Black people is represented by depicting Obama and Michelle as monkeys, he wrote. No African president can treat his predecessor with such scorn, thuggery, hatred, and disrespect, regardless of our ‘underdevelopment’ or political differences. The contempt that “the leader of the free world” showed that revered position will provide plenty material for future historians.
