Every Nigerian citizen must do their part to ensure the safety of their country, according to IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu.
At Saturday’s commissioning ceremony for the Oyan Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyan town, Odo-Otin local government council area, Osun State, IGP Disu made this statement.
Starting in June 2023 and finishing in August 2024, the project was turned over to Oyan town and sponsored by the Nigerian Police. It was facilitated by AIG Kayode Aderanti (rtd).
Under the auspices of CP Ibrahim Gotan, the Osun State Police Commissioner, IGP Disu stated that the purpose of establishing the Oyan Divisional Police Headquarters is to bring the people of Osun closer to the police.
Improved response speed, intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and stronger coordination between the police and the good people of Oyan and its surrounding villages will all be brought about by the police division, he observed.
He continued by saying that the presence of the police division in Oyan town will further demonstrate the dedication of the Nigeria Police to protecting citizens and their possessions.
The head of the police force made the following statement: “This event marks yet another critical milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to reinforce security architecture, boost operational efficiency, and deepen community policing across Osun State”.
“The dedication to protecting lives and property is reinforced with the establishment and commissioning of this Divisional Headquarters. It is more than just revealing a structure.
Bringing police into the communities is the main focus. Improving response time is the main focus. enhancing cooperation between the police and the decent citizens of Oyan and the neighbouring areas; collecting intelligence; and reducing criminal activity.
Everyone needs to do their part to keep the community safe, thus he emphasised the importance of citizens taking responsibility, protecting one another, and working together with the Nigeria Police.
In addition, he admonished the command staff to always act with the utmost professionalism, honesty, discipline, and regard for human rights.
“The public’s perception of the Osun State Command is directly impacted by your actions, but I want you to know that we are committed to fighting crime in all its manifestations. He assured the people of Osun State that their safety would be maintained through the use of intelligence-led operations, community partnerships, and innovative techniques.
In an effort to bolster the security architecture throughout the entire state, Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has promised to supply operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to security operatives.
The governor further stated that the project’s commissioning was a watershed moment in the development of public-private partnerships to ensure the safety of the state.
He emphasised the need of public-private partnerships, saying, “Nigeria is currently challenged in security and Osun is surrounded by potential threats to its security.”
“The state is facing security pressures, and as a result, they have found an alternative way to secure their state.”
In addition to the enabling law having been reviewed and signed by the Osun State House of Assembly, Governor Adeleke announced that the state will create a security trust fund in March.
Osun will start its security trust fund in March, bringing it into league with other states. The fund’s enabling legislation has been approved and is now law. He went on to say that local security services would receive funding from the security trust fund.
Community security is a shared obligation, Governor Adeleke said. Oba Kilani Adeyeye, Olayan of Oyan, expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police and the project’s organiser.
The project coordinator, AIG Kayode Aderanti (rtd), thanked everyone involved for their help and promised to send out competent staff members right away so that services could be provided efficiently.
