A measure that aims to create the Benue State Security Trust Fund and addresses related topics has been approved at the second reading by the Benue State House of Assembly.
While the Speaker, Rt Hon. Alfred Emberger, presided over a plenary, the measure was read a second time.
The House Majority Leader, Hon., is spearheading the discussion on the bill’s second reading. According to Sir Thomas Dugeri, the primary goal of the bill is to establish a security budget that can be used to purchase and deploy various types of equipment and resources. These resources can be used by federal, state, and local governments as well as other security agencies in the state.
He went on to say that some of the money will go toward helping the state’s security forces stay up-to-date with the latest threats.
Since the people of Benue are presently confronted with insecurity and existential dangers from all directions, the bill’s sponsors said that it could not have arrived at a better moment.
In order to be proactive and prepared for the future, they unanimously passed the bill to be read a second time, highlighting the necessity to invest acceptable resources in the security sector.
The bill has been referred to the House Standing Committees on Local Government, Security, and Chieftaincy Affairs for further legislative action by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Aondoaver Alfred Emberga.
“Petition Against Victimisation, Unlawful Removal from Office, And Abuse of Power By Officials Of The Local Government Service Commission And Others In Respect Of My Appointment As Treasurer, Obi Local Government Council” was the title of another petition that Okoh Regina Ada presented to the House during plenary.
In a statement issued by Zape Upaa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, it was stated that Rt Hon. Anthony Agom, who represents the Okpokwu State Constituency, formally delivered the petition on the House floor.
