The newly formed Waru-Pozema District will have the infrastructure needed to accommodate inhabitants and developers, according to Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike. The FCT Administration will be responsible for providing this infrastructure.
This was said by Wike on Thursday during a press conference following an inspection of various current projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
The prospect of providing basic infrastructure in the district, located in Cadastral Zone D16, would be explored by the government in collaboration with appropriate organisations, he stated.
He said that in order to figure out what’s next, including whether or not the project is included in the 2026 budget, the FCT Administration would talk to the Federal Capital Development Authority and other pertinent ministries.
“We need to enquire from the FCDA or the coordinator about the new Waru-Pozema district in Cadastral Zone D16 to see if it is planned for the 2026 budget,” he stated. “Rest assured, we will spare no effort in facilitating the necessary infrastructure and reopening the district for residents to occupy.”
While on the tour, the minister was pleased with the progress made on a number of judicial infrastructure projects.
According to what Wike heard, the contractors working on the Court of Appeal complex guaranteed a May completion date. Additionally, he mentioned that the quarters for the judges, including the part for the Federal High Court, had already been provided.
According to Wike, the project includes a total of 40 duplexes; 10 for the Federal High Court, 20 for the FCT High Court, and 10 more for the Court of Appeal. The inauguration of these facilities is scheduled to coincide with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
While at Katampe, the minister praised the contractor for the speed and quality of their work on a large road project that he likened to a ring road.
He singled out China Geo-Engineering Corporation, a construction firm, as an example of a reliable business whose promises could be relied upon.
Additionally, he stressed that, “It’s one of those companies—when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it.”
Through Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, the Acting ES, the Minister expresses his pleasure with the degree of oversight by FCDA authorities.
When asked what drives him to conduct frequent inspections of projects, Wike cited his devotion to duty and the trust that President Tinubu has placed in him.
“If the President trusts you enough to assign you a task, you must give your all to it,” he said.
The minister emphasised the need of unity inside the Peoples Democratic Party while discussing national politics, stating that party reunification should take precedence over plans for future elections.
All eyes are on the upcoming party convention, he said, but he was hopeful that the party could stay competitive if its members were genuine in their attempts at reconciliation.
