After rejecting a Ramadan palliative issued by the state government, Abduljalal Usman, a school teacher in Kebbi State, was suspended for three months.
A state government employee named Usman took to Facebook on Wednesday to voice his displeasure with the Ramadan food supplies provided to teachers.
He claims in the Hausa-language film that Governor Nasir Idris gave him just one mudu (local measuring bowl) of millet and rice.
He proudly displayed the artefacts, explaining that they were presented to him by His Excellency as a token of support for his work as a school teacher.
Usman claimed the gesture was inadequate given teachers’ workloads, and the video subsequently went viral on social media.
A three-month suspension was declared by Usman two days after the video was posted.
According to him, the video in which he voiced his disapproval of the Ramadan palliative was the catalyst for the action.
The Dandi Local Government Education Authority claimed the instructor was negligent and failed to show up for work, so they suspended him or her for three months without pay.
A three-month suspension from duty is hereby imposed by the authority upon you for negligence and defaulting in your duties, according to the letter. The Education Secretary’s Office in Dandi Local Government Area sent the letter.
No formal confirmation could be obtained from the Kebbi State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education. Those who were contacted claimed ignorance of the situation.
