The impeachment process that the State House of Assembly began against Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been denied by a Federal High Court.
Justice S.M. Shaibu ruled on March 25, 2026, that the urgent order could not be granted because the deputy governor did not fulfil the necessary legal requirements. The order was filed without hearing the other parties concerned.
In order for the respondents to respond appropriately to the lawsuit, the court further ordered Gwarzo to serve them with all relevant legal papers.
A separate temporary court injunction was already obtained by the Kano State House of Assembly on March 11, 2026.
The deputy governor is prohibited from interfering with the Assembly’s constitutional functions, as outlined in that order, specifically in relation to Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
