For slandering Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) founder Dr. Daniel Olukoya and ministries USA Incorporated, a Baltimore County Court judge fined Olufunke Ashekun $300,000.
Keep in mind that the church viewed Ashekun’s social media campaigns and posts as disrespectful and libellous, thus she and MFM have been involved in a legal dispute.
In a statement released on Sunday, the church said that Ashekun had been found guilty of “defamation and false light” by a jury. As a result, the church was awarded compensatory damages of $250,000 and punitive damages of $50,000 to discourage others from making baseless accusations.
Despite regretting the defendant’s “weak, inadmissible evidence and witnesses,” the court acknowledged that the plaintiff established its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
It went on to say that the church’s credibility and Mountain of Fire’s professional integrity were both damaged by Ashekun’s campaign.
The plaintiff’s successful prosecution of its defamation and false light claims resulted in a binding court order against Olufunke Ashekun for compensatory damages in the amount of $250,000 and punitive damages in the sum of $50,000.
This was stated in a judgement handed down by the Circuit Court of Baltimore County Maryland on the 13th of March 2026 in the matter of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries USA, INC v Olufunke Ashekun.
“The judgement and damages were granted by the Court because it acknowledged Olufunke Ashekun’s long, vicious, and destructive campaign against Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries USA, INC., which was deeply troubled by the breadth and depth of her divisive rhetoric.”
According to the statement, Funke Ashekun was brought out of court by an emergency 911 ambulance the day before the jury’s verdict after she slumped when she realised the case was heavily against her.
The next day, when the jury delivered their verdict, her husband also slumped in court, as was mentioned.
