Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and senator from Edo North, paid President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.
He spoke to reporters after their meeting and praised Remi Tinubu, Nigeria’s first lady, for the widespread acclaim she has received.
Noting that he hadn’t met the president since 2016, Oshiomhole stated that greeting the president was his primary reason for visiting the villa. Greeting him with a “Happy New Year,” he announced.
But the ex-governor of Edo State also brought attention to the fact that President Trump recently recognised the First Lady at the National Prayer Breakfast.
The head of Nigeria’s church, Bola Tinubu, spoke highly of the First Lady yesterday, praising her as “a very respectable woman, a responsible woman, and a pastor of the largest church in Nigeria,” according to Oshiomhole.
“As a Nigerian, I feel proud,” he said, emphasising the significance of the award. Imagine the opposition’s reaction if the tables were turned; we felt it was crucial to extend our congratulations to Mr. President.
Oshiomhole went on to say that the recognition was symbolically important, drawing attention to the religious diversity among Nigeria’s top officials.
The president of Nigeria is a Muslim, but Trump acknowledged that he is married to a Christian who is a preacher. “This sends a message that the Quran and the Bible are not at odds with each other, and that Nigerians should stand united as a nation for the benefit of all,” he said.
“If there are challenges, we face them collectively,” he said as a final statement, emphasising the importance of solidarity and shared accountability. We divide up any advantages fairly. That, to me, is the main point. Unite, we must govern this nation. There are problems, but if we work together, we can solve them.
