Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr has spoken highly of males from Nigeria. Starr compared Nigerian guys to men in New York City, saying that they are both supportive and extremely self-assured, in a recent episode of Angela Yee’s show The Way Up.
Still, she expressed her scepticism toward Nigerian males, saying, “men are still men. Nigerian males are known to be very caring, she remarked. When it comes to their partner, they are quite encouraging.
Their level of self-assurance is comparable to that of males in New York. Men, though, are men. A man is still a man. It goes for everyone.
This comes months after Ayra Starr was the target of widespread online criticism and vitriol from male Nigerians who claimed that her online feminist activism belies her actual character.
Her detractors said that her dancing video to Naira Marley’s song and her happy reaction to meeting Chris Brown were in odds with her feminist image.
Her sense of style was another area where she was criticised in the past.
Critics are not her “pastor” or “mother,” Starr told them in 2023, when she addressed the issue around her wardrobe choices.
