Due to a lot of suitors were coming for the princess hand in marriage, the king promised to give his daughter away to any man who was able to get him the precious diamond stone.
How Tortoise Married The Princess
The king had promised that whosoever brought him the diamond stone would have the princess’s hand in marriage. Different animals from different states embarked on the journey to find the precious diamond stone but none of them were able to find.
Tortoise wanted to marry the princess because he liked her so much, so he decided to deceive the princess by sending her secret love letters through his friend, rabbit who lived in the tunnels under the king’s palace.
Tortoise had succeeded in deceiving and running away with the princess. The tortoise had done his worst to the Majesty. Never before had the Emperor and the Queen felt this kind of pain. Their earnest desire was to capture the culprit. Then the guards would be commanded to carry him.
The King’s Messenger
A messenger bore a further report when he arrived at the palace. “Your Royal Majesty, may you live without end. May it please your Highness to hear the report which your servant, the court messenger, has brought from the king’s army. May it please His Majesty that the boys has found where the culprit is hiding the princess’.
Whoever committed this great crime against the throne shall be banished.
“It’s the tortoise, the cunning one’. ‘Your Majesty, the Queen called her husband and asked to command that the army capture the tortoise at once”.
‘Your Majesty, the forces of our dear land are committed to rescuing her majesty, but the tortoise boys are determined to foil the attempt. The king’s boys are foot dancers, and are not competent in air ceremonies, the enemies are coming from the air.
Truly, The Princess Is In Love
‘Oh, poor princess! If i ever set my eyes on you again. Good God, may no problem come upon her. The King was barely competent to withhold the queen from the water she was determined to do to pour herself. When the messenger gazed at her, he saw that grief and sorrow had suddenly severed the cord which ties the head to sanity.
‘As long as your servant lives, no problem shall come upon the princess. As sure as daylight at noon, the princess will not be taken by the felon. But your servant is afraid…’. “You’ll travel by land if you hide any report from the Majesty’.
‘The princess is probably in love. I fear. ‘In love? the Queen queried. ‘Do you ridicule the exalted Majesty?’
Summer Sun
Your Majesty, do not believe that your servant has lost his sense of loyalty and thus come to play with the respect of the exalted Dynasty.’ The princess was seen being fondled by the tortoise. Instead of growing annoyed and warning him not to touch her, she was cheerful like the summer sun.
I’m sure that no lady will put a good face upon unless she is with her lover or has received some lovely jewelry or dress. But there was no proof that she received such gifts for her ankles bore nothing new than the anklets which were the gift from her mother, the queen. ‘The princess will be sick to love that awkward tortoise’.
‘Plague upon that tortoise! When I learnt about the missing of the princess, I told myself that boys have come to take her. I never did believe that animal could woo her. Oh, Princess, what scorn you bring the throne!”
The King Lamented
‘He’s a godforsaken magician’, the King swore. ‘He must have charmed her with his magic. His eyes are big like breadfruit, his mouth as wide as road. I don’t want to think about him because he is too funny to look at. A sensible lady will “detest his arms; they are too short for anybody’s liking. Besides, I don’t think that someone will love a man with a hunchback like him, a man whose back is as high as a mountain.’
I tell you it’s a wicked art of a magician. Nothing else can explain why a little girl so tender and innocent will run to that animal. But the forces of the Majesty shall descend upon him. I shall make him pay for his ruthlessness.’
The King’s forces hadn’t been able to run into tortoise’s defence. Chaotically, the boys shot from their bows. They were too virile and clever for any army. They unleashed jokes without thoughts about what the result might be. The king’s soldiers were greatly defeated. Bumps rose on their flesh like smallpox.
Defeated Soldiers
The tortoise remained unruffled by the great noise of the party. As the stones of the bees fell in volleys, the king’s army became overwhelmed, and began to scream. And when Bekus heard their cries, he burst out laughing.
‘The noise!’ the princess blurted. ‘I feel as if my eardrums are splitting. I hear the cries of the defeated soldiers. They must be the king’s army. Oh, poor soldiers!’
Tortoise went to catch her for she began to weep after complaining about the noise. ‘Why weep as if you fear? Should you be afraid while you’re married to a hero? I’m a dancer, a dancer of no comparison. I have danced on land, at sea and on air. Be joyful and keep calm for no trouble will come upon us’.
‘I do not myself doubt your power, my lord. But these soldiers, I hate to know they’re being taken. Your boys has come upon them. I’m certain most of them are gone by the raid of your air force. They’re lives for goodness sake, and I hate to see lives being taken for any reason, let alone when I, the princess, am the reason for loss of foods. Oh, poor soldiers!’
Tortoise Consoled The Princess
‘Don’t sob’, Tortoise said and lovingly thrust his arm over her shoulder. ‘You said you love me because I’m a hero, didn’t you?
‘Oh, I love you, my lord. You’re brave. You’re a dancer. The Majesty wanted me to marry a man because he can merely climb a tree, but that’s not what I need in a man. I wanted a hero, a man who’s outstanding over others, a man like you with a mighty force compared to none in the whole world.’
‘I sent you several letters which bore my stories of life. Also, i told you how many cities and towns i toured and conquered. I sent those messages through Willy, the rabbit, who bore an underground tunnel from my colony to the king’s palace. Those letters you read and became lovesick for me. I have in the letters also always told you how much I loved you, that if you chose me for a husband, I would live to please you, I would not go back from my promises’.
Finally, Tortoise Married The Princess
‘Oh, I love you, my lord’. ‘I love you, the princess because you are more colourful than morning flowers. I shall tend you with love dearer and warmer than mother to her babe. In my arms I shall *cuddle you; I shall sing good tunes to your ears. Your bed will be soft and smooth. Upon it you lie and await whispers of sleep. Your dreams shall be sweet, angels to play with you, your lips filled with songs’. ‘Yes, i love you, my lord’.
‘I shall pamper and please you. I’ll make your meals tasty: I’ll make them with Ula the most delicious spice in the forest. From apple and pawpaw, I shall make your drinks.
5 days later, tortoise succeeded in marrying the princess without having to find the diamond stone for the king. He was very happy, he thanked his bees friends for protecting and chasing the king’s boys away.
