Even though local stakeholders and armed groups in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State had signed a peace pact before Ramadan, bandits have reportedly killed a civilian and abducted many others in separate attacks.
The news broke on Friday when security expert and crisis journalist Bakatsine posted about it on his X account.
At about midnight in the Gangaren Mangwarori region of Kankara town, the assailants allegedly murdered a local man named Malam Surajo and kidnapped an old woman named Gwamma, as stated in the report.
On Friday morning, at approximately 6 o’clock, the same group of assailants allegedly stormed the Marabar Gurbi hamlet in the same LGA and kidnapped many inhabitants.
According to reports, Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was en route to the mosque to lead the Subhi (Fajr) prayer following Sahoor, was taken together with other individuals.
Residents are even more worried now that these occurrences have occurred despite reports of a peace deal between community leaders and bandit groups in the days leading up to Ramadan.
The most recent attacks, according to locals, have increased tensions and prompted demands for more robust security measures to forestall additional bloodshed.
