As part of their attempts to enhance their technical ability, four members of the Nigerian Air Force have received training on airframe maintenance for the AW109 Trekker helicopter.
A statement from the Nigerian Air Force’s official X page contained this information. The announcement states that the training was held from January 12th to February 20th, 2026, at the Leonardo Helicopter Division site in Sesto Calende, Italy.
Air Force officials said that the course included both classroom instruction and hands-on training, teaching students how to recognise different parts of a helicopter, how to operate it, and what maintenance is necessary to keep it flying.
“Participants were instructed on the identification of AW109S Trekker helicopter systems and subsystems, their modes of operation, and critical procedures for effective maintenance and troubleshooting required to keep the aircraft in an airworthy condition,” the statement said, adding that the training program included rigorous theoretical and practical phases.
The statement went on to say that the course also covered how to read and follow maintenance instructions correctly for standardised, risk-free upkeep.
The emphasis on capacity development, technical excellence, and ongoing professional progress of people is in line with the command philosophy of Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke. This training is in line with that philosophy.
The statement went on to say that the four employees were given certificates of accomplishment at the conclusion of the training.
