Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has warned that the country will remain mired in policy inaction and that development will remain elusive.
Because of the leadership’s failure to execute policies, Obasanjo is concerned that Nigeria is moving forward only partially.
Yesterday, during a ceremony in Abuja, the ex-president gave a speech.
While acknowledging that Nigeria has the policies necessary for greatness, Obasanjo held the country’s leaders responsible for the country’s stagnation.
It is insufficient for leaders to merely have policies or make comments, claims Obasanjo. Nigeria has no shortage of policies.
A lot of policies that never got off the ground ended up in Nigeria, which is a shame.
Those that succeed did so not because they wished to succeed, but because they actually did something about it. Taking baby steps ahead and giant leaps backward is not their style.
The sad truth is that we are engaging in this practice across the board in our country. We will not make any headway so long as we keep doing things this way.
