In what it has characterised as an ongoing dispute affecting local government employees throughout the state, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ogun State Chapter has once again given a seven-day ultimatum to the Ogun State Government.
Comrade Adefesobi Adebayo, the state president of NULGE, made the announcement at a news conference that took place at the union secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday.
A fortnight ago, the union delivered an ultimatum that had a duration of fourteen days; two weeks ago, that ultimatum expired.
Adefesobi voiced his displeasure with the state government’s apparent disregard for the union’s earlier communications with the governor (which were dated January 21 and January 28, 2026) and the pressing issues “militating against the Local Government Service in Ogun State.”
The state president claims that throughout the state’s twenty LGAs, personnel’ confidence and trust in their respective governments have taken a nosedive due to the purported inaction of the central administration.
He announced that the union will be holding the government to its requests for seven days, beginning on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and ending on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
He gave the state administration until the ultimatum’s expiration to fulfil the union’s requests or face industrial action, he said.
Concerning the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), the union expressed its displeasure with what it deemed as the failure to execute the Memorandum of Action that was agreed upon with organised labour on July 14, 2025. The union warned that this development has shattered the dreams of retirees in the local government service.
You may remember that the union had previously written to the governor to express its displeasure with what it saw as an excessive level of state intervention in the affairs of local governments.
Despite the Supreme Court judgement, the National Assembly proclamation, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instruction, Governor Abiodun has failed to implement complete local government autonomy, according to the union.
According to the report, this had a severe impact on grassroots administration because local governments were left to fend for themselves without basic furniture, inadequate infrastructure, and uninspired staff enduring tough conditions.
The union is pleading with Your Excellency to sincerely and urgently investigate our demands so that there is no industrial dispute in Ogun State’s twenty local government councils, as he is a labor-friendly and attentive governor.
“Your Excellency, the leadership of NULGE in Ogun State is prepared to meet in order to resolve this issue in a cordial manner.”
