The Nigerian musician Crayon has been in the middle of a scandal following a string of social media posts in which he openly criticised the leadership of his record company.
The rapper vented his frustrations with Blowtime Entertainment and its management on his X account. Blowtime Entertainment is an imprint of Mavin Records.
“Don Jazzy na my boy!!!!!!” was one of Crayon’s posts that seemed to criticise the label’s founder, Don Jazzy. One of them is insane! Salaam, sharayyyyy.
The artist went on to call Mavin Records COO Tega Oghenejobo a “highest criminal” and criticise him.
Without offering any further details or context, Crayon made the shocking accusation that the label was the reason he lost his mother.
Speculation about a potential split between the artist and the record label was stoked when the singer commented, “Mavin is going down!!!!!!” in another post that gained significant online attention.
Fans and industry watchers alike have responded strongly to the messages, with many wondering what this means for Crayon’s future with Mavin Records.
Whether or not the singer’s X account has been compromised is yet unknown, though.
Without implying that his account was compromised, he has persisted in posting regularly on his Instagram site.
Crayon, meanwhile, has been posting about what seems to be a new enterprise, Olodum Entertainment, on his Instagram profile, along with a new booking email address.
Neither Crayon nor Mavin Records have addressed the speculation that the singer is intending to leave the label, but this new information has added gasoline to the fire.
Since partnering with Mavin Records’ Blowtime Entertainment imprint in May 2019, Crayon has dropped multiple singles.
