After Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal ended in a 2-2 tie, City defender Kyle Walker placed the blame on referee Michael Oliver.
After a short discussion on the atmosphere on the field, the referee summoned Arsenal captain Bukayo Saka and Walker for a meeting.
In order to defuse the situation, both players were to relay the message to their teammates.
But Arsenal scored an equalizer because Walker could not get back to his position before the game restarted.
The referee has not been approached by Walker, according to BBC5Live. Neither Bukayo nor I had gone over; he summoned us.
He needs to wait for me to get back into position before he sends the ball flying over my head if he calls me over.
I take full responsibility if I voluntarily step out of my role and end up in the wrong place. However, I am in a position to help; he has summoned the two captains to reassure the players.
Let’s get through this, guys. Stay focused; nothing foolish. I’m going to be walking back to tell you that. At that point, the ball will travel past me.
Would a goalie let me back into his net if I were him? Sure thing! As the first line of defense, it is only fair that he allow me re-enter the game once I am set before blowing the whistle.
