At the Sokoto Prison, traditional Igbo priestesses paid a visit to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, who is also known as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine, or Mother of All Igbo Masquerades, escorted the group of priestesses on Wednesday during their visit to the Titled Spiritual Mothers of Igboland.
One of the most prominent keepers of Igbo customs, Ibeneme has served as Anambra State’s Commissioner for Works and Housing. Lolo Eze Nwanyị Nnewi accompanied her on the visit.
During their visit, the priestesses showed “unwavering solidarity and abiding maternal affection” to Kanu, according to a pro-Biafra group statement from Wednesday. After welcoming Kanu into their family and loving him like a son, they prayed “powerful prayers” for him.

The purpose of this tour was to honour the Titled Spiritual Mothers of Igboland, who represent the maternal, spiritual, and ancestral guardianship of our people across Ala-Igbo, as well as to carry out the intended business of this visit.
“In her role as a respected spiritual guide and champion of Igbo culture, Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme offered significant presents, called upon the blessings of the ancestors, and reiterated the deep maternal support of all Igbo mothers — both living and deceased (ndi nwụrụ anwụ),” the statement stated.
In order to secure Kanu’s release from incarceration, the priestesses informed him of their intention to engage major paramount monarchs, traditional chiefs, and spiritual authority across Nigeria in a larger mission.
His unconditional release is being advocated for by this movement, which aims to promote discussion, utilise both divine and earthly elements, according to the statement.
All Igbos, Ibeneme said, should pray for Kanu’s release.
The speaker emphasised the importance of uniting in passionate prayers for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate freedom, the sustained efficacy of our mothers’ intercessions, and the restoration of justice, equality, and peace in our land. She urged all sons and daughters of Ala-Igbo, along with people of conscience everywhere, to do the same.
“May the divine presence of Chukwu Okike Abiama bless our son, our esteemed mothers, and the entire Igbo people.”
