Multiple allegations of wrongdoing by medical staff in Yobe State hospitals have prompted the formation of an ad hoc committee by the state’s legislative body to look into the matter.
It is also the committee’s responsibility to find out whether any hospitals are experiencing a scarcity of competent medical professionals.
The formation of the committee was announced during today’s plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, as the House resumed after its annual break.
The Speaker has announced that Ya’u Usman Dachia, the Deputy Speaker, will serve as the committee’s chair, with Ahmed Musa Dumbol, Kachalla Ajiya Maina, Sanda Kara Bade, Saminu Musa Lawan, and Mohammed Ali serving as members.
“Though there have been notable successes in the health sector during Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration, the public’s complaints necessitate a comprehensive investigation to guarantee that suitable remedies are put into place,” Mashio stated.
The House has also expedited the review of a bill that will create the Yobe State Senior Secondary Education Board.
After passing its second reading, the House moved the bill—introduced by the executive branch—to the House Standing Committee on Basic and Secondary Education for additional consideration.
Two executive proposals that would create an Urban and Regional Planning Authority and a State Waqf Board have also made it to the House.
