Mr. Jollof, a stage name for comedian and actor Freedom Atsepoyi, has spoken out against the recent “rape festival” in Ozoro, Delta State.
Gistcon previously reported that unsettling allegations originated in Ozoro, Delta State, where video footage purportedly captured the harassment and abuse of women at a local festival. The film has since gone viral online.
Scenes of women fighting to escape from groups of men were captured on film, and some of them cried out for assistance. The footage caused a great deal of outrage.
The public’s outcry prompted the Delta State Police Command to confirm the arrest of four individuals, including Chief Omorede Sunday, the suspected organiser.
“Acts of sexual violence that are criminal, inhumane, and a grave violation of fundamental human rights” were the words used by Aina Adesola, the Commissioner of Police, in her scathing condemnation of the incident. On Friday, in response to the incident that went viral, Mr. Jollof posted the following to his Instagram page:
If such a disregard for women persists in the year 2026, it would make me quite embarrassed to be a Deltan. Even if we celebrate Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day this month, this is taking place. “That is terrible,” he remarked.
In addition, he urged the government of Delta State to act swiftly to resolve the issue and guarantee the administration of justice. The government of Delta State must speak up and ensure that those guilty are brought to justice.
“How can parents feel safe sending their daughters to school in Ozoro when this is going on under the pretence of a festival?” he asked, adding that children attend the school there.
