On Thursday, Jigawa State women’s groups held yet another nonviolent demonstration, this time calling on the people to refrain from politicising the case and give the DSS and the courts the power to resolve it legally.
Protesters representing all 27 LGAs gathered at the state capital, Dutse’s Government House. Walida is safe, DSS is transparent, court is handling the matter right,” “Stop politicising Walida’s case, leave it to DSS to handle it,” and other slogans were displayed on the banners carried by the demonstrators. They also called for support for the state government and the court system.
Aisha Shamsuddeen, chairperson of the Jigawa Women Development Initiative, led the protest and stated that the event was important since some people had politicised the situation.
She said the authorities are doing the right thing with the case right now, and that people should stay out of it since it could derail justice.
“Allow them to handle it,” Aisha pleaded, adding that Walida is safe, DSS is open and honest, and the court is doing the right thing.
The group praised Governor Umar Namadi for stepping up to the plate and releasing Walida into the state’s care.
The Jigawa State Government will see the Walida Abdulhadi matter through to its reasonable and lawful end, according to Governor Umar Namadi, as published in the Daily Post.
