Attendees at the Flutterwave gala night include Obasanjo, Koroma, Sanwo-Olu, and other prominent African figures

On Tuesday, February 11th, 2026, the inaugural Gala Night commemorating Flutterwave’s 10th anniversary brought together prominent political, business, and industry figures from around Africa. Flutterwave is a leading financial company in Africa.

The most famous people in the world showed up to an exclusive event at the world-renowned The Delborough Lagos, effectively shutting down the venue.

On hand to represent the Nigerian brand were notable figures from the African political, business, and industry spheres, such as Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, founder of the Coscharis Group, Ernest Ndukwe, chairman of the board of directors of MTN Nigeria, and Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, founder and chief executive officer of Stanel Group/The Delborough Lagos, among others.

There were a lot of famous people there, including actress Omotola Jalade, former BBN housemates Dorathy and Erica, and famed Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage.

The event was a celebration of quality, ease, and enterprise development, according to Flutterwave creator and CEO Olugbenga Agboola.

The absence and lag in processing online payments across African nations was the impetus for Agboola to start Flutterwave in 2016, as he revealed in his inauguration speech.

“We launched a company in 2026 with the intention of revolutionising payments in Africa.”

He pointed out that sending cash via plane from Lagos, Nigeria to Accra, Ghana was quicker than utilising an electronic payment system, which would have to go via New York before reaching Ghana. This was before 2016.

Several world leaders, including Chief Obasanjo, Koroma, Governor Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, and others, sent individual notes of goodwill in which they praised the young Nigerian Agboola for representing her country and Africa with honour on the international arena.
