In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Patrick Ndubueze of Imo North and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central got into an altercation during the budget defence of the Ministry of Steel in the Nigerian Senate.
Reportedly, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, who chairs the Senate Committee on Steel Development, did not allow Akpoti-Uduaghan to question Minister Shuaibu Abubakar Audu during their interactive session.
Senator Natasha wanted to ask Ndubueze some important questions, so she asked for him permission to do so. But Ndubueze hit the gavel, so she couldn’t ask the questions.
The committee had not been given enough opportunity to engage the minister, and Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Ndubueze of disrespecting her in response to his conduct.
Having anything to say, Senator Natasha stated. Would it be okay with you if I did that?”
“Distinguished, please, let’s end this meeting,” Ndubueze responded.
Ndubueze struck the gavel once again as she tried to approach the minister.
Mr. Chairman, Natasha begged you not to strike the gavel. Please give me the respect I deserve; I have more to say.
Ndubueze said, “I have given you respect,” as he struck the gavel once again. The time is up for you, Mr. Minister. It is appreciated.
Then Natasha said, “That’s satisfactory. There has been more than enough disrespect from you. Do not harm me in any way.
I don’t care if I’ve already spoken to the minister once or twice; I have an extremely important question. We have not had nearly enough meetings with the minister, and you acknowledge that this is an interactive session. God alone knows the exact date of our next committee meeting with him.
