Bassey Ubi, the young man who murdered his father last Sunday, was heavily impaired by drugs, according to Cyril Omini, the legislator for Yakurr State Constituency.
He announced this at today’s plenary session on the House floor. He urged State Security Advisor Major General Ubi (rtd) to step up the fight against drug abuse in the state.
Narcotics are common in our neighbourhoods and city centers, he claimed, and that’s why the teen who murdered his dad last week was high.
He took a machete from inside the home and severed his father’s head. He blamed the “simple influence” of narcotics for the epidemic among young people.
Not only that, but other legislators joined in the chorus of voices demanding action against the state’s drug problem from the State Security Adviser and drug enforcement agencies. After the son, who was 23 years old at the time, returned from church on Sunday, he murdered his father.
What transpired took place in the vicinity of O-3 Palace in Usaja, Ikpakapit Ward, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State. The event was verified by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Eitokpah.
