City will be without attacker Erling Haaland for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Watford.
Goal reports that Haaland has returned to Norway following a loss in the family.
A family friend, Ivar Eggja, died away earlier this month, and City has given the 24-year-old permission to attend the funeral.
Eggja was a trusted confidante of Haaland’s who was essential in the player’s development as a player and in his personal life.
A “compassionate leave” had been originally planned to be granted to Haaland by the city.
But he did play last week in the Champions League against Inter Milan in addition to his league matches against Arsenal and Brentford.
