The fire that broke out at the Nurul Haqq Quranic and Arabic School in Birnin Kebbi has been promptly investigated by Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State. Several dorms and classrooms on campus were impacted by the incident that happened on Saturday night.
The governor has ordered the formation of a commission to investigate the fire’s origins and propose solutions to ensure it doesn’t happen again, according to a statement released by Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity.
Reportedly, Idris halted to determine the source of the dense smoke he spotted as he was driving through the region. The Kebbi State Fire Service and other emergency personnel were alerted to the fire when it was determined that the smoke was emanating from the school.
During the operation, around 140 kids were forced to leave the premises. No fatalities were reported in the event, according to authorities.
The fire was so intense that firemen fought it for hours before finally putting it out; officials reported that gas cylinders were in several of the students’ rooms.
While officials work to determine what started the fire, the impacted pupils have been moved to the main campus.
