Showmax will be shut down after more than ten years of existence, according to MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv.
The decision was made after a strategic assessment to improve the company’s digital products and secure its long-term viability in the face of increasing competition in the streaming industry, according to a statement sent to subscribers on March 5.
Showmax has grown to offer viewers in other African nations since its 2015 inception in South Africa.
Despite the lack of an official shutdown date, MultiChoice has assured its users that the service would remain operational for the time being and that they do not need to take any immediate action.
After careful consideration, the Showmax Board has decided to end the Showmax service soon, according to parts of the statement.

Before the closure, the corporation also said that they would give specifics about when things will be closed and how the transition will go.

The news follows the approval of Canal+’s acquisition of MultiChoice, but the firm has not yet addressed concerns raised by staff or offered alternatives to Showmax subscribers.
