Because of the proliferation of criminals and other undesirable elements, the government of Kogi State has decided to halt all mining operations in the state.
According to Bashiru Gegu, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, the decision to cease mining activity was made at a meeting of the State Executive Council presided over by Usman Ahmed Ododo, the governor of Kogi State.
According to Gegu, who spoke to reporters following the State Executive Council, the ministry will begin to profile the state’s legal mining companies.
This will allow the state to have authentic mining data, says the commissioner.
In order to minimize or eliminate crimes altogether, it is necessary to clean up the area completely.
Working in tandem with Federal Mines Officers and Security Agencies, the state will adhere to all game regulations.
Infiltration or illicit mining operations will not be tolerated by the state. We kindly request that all mining companies cooperate with the state during this time, as we are addressing the issue of insecurity.
