The South West geographical zone’s Islamic organizations, according to Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold of Ibadan, should avoid dividing Muslims in the region and instead work to bring about constructive development.
During a news conference on Wednesday in Ibadan, Akewugbagold made this announcement.
Instead of sowing discord and political instability, he urged the region’s many Islamic organizations to work toward a more united Islam.
There needs to be an immediate gathering of all relevant parties to address the ways in which religious differences are driving Nigerians apart, particularly in the country’s southwestern region, he added.
At the same time, he urged the region’s Islamic groups to stop focusing on problems and start addressing ways to bring about real change.
For Nigeria to experience progress and achieve self-sufficiency, Akewugbagold argued that religious practices should contribute to community development rather than hinder it.
He also asked President Bola Tinubu to transform Nigeria from a consumerist to a producer nation.
He emphasized that the Yoruba people and Nigeria as a whole should live their religious lives in a way that advances their civilization.
We Yoruba believe that in worshipping one God (Allah), there is a necessity to promote Islamic unity amongst different sects in order to advance our race.
Because they take their cues from the Quran and the Hadith of the prophet Muhammed, SAW, different Islamic organizations have a responsibility to promote and develop Islamic unity rather than sow discord and undermine political stability.
Our goal is to bring together the Muslim rulers of the southwestern region, as well as Islamic academics and imams, at this meeting.
