Over 564 beneficiaries in Jigawa State have received over N1.4 billion in pension and related benefits from the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board. During a press briefing on Monday, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu Aminu, the board’s executive secretary, said this.
He went on to say that the approved amount of N1,429,201,208.92 consists of pension payments, death benefits, and any remaining balances on death pensions.
In addition to the N1,191,804,237.17 paid to 485 retired public servants, he stated that the families of 71 workers who passed away also received N226,547,197.84.
Furthermore, eight pensioners’ families received a total of N10,849,773.91 as a death pension balance.
According to Dr. Aminu, the board is still dedicated to paying pensions and other benefits on time. He also mentioned that pensions are consistently paid on the first of every month.
The state’s pension system is considered to be among the best in Nigeria, according to Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, who spoke earlier at the Pension House before the exercise began.
He reiterated Governor Umar Namadi’s dedication to the well-being of current and former government employees and said that the state’s pension system has served as an example for other states to follow.
He claims that Governor Namadi has invested more than N11 billion into the pension plan since he took office in May 2023, making it stronger and more sustainable.
