Over the course of three senatorial districts in Kogi State, the 72 constituency projects with a combined value of N16.3 billion have been put under the scrutiny of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Wale David, the Commission’s Assistant Commissioner, made the announcement on Saturday in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
According to David, the purpose of the activity is to verify that the projects have been carried out legally and are providing real advantages to the community.
He further claims that the commission will look into projects that were reportedly not completed to standard or those were abandoned.
Intervention programs will be evaluated to confirm beneficiaries and evaluate the efficacy of execution, he said, and contractors found guilty of poor work would be required to return to the site and fix the problems.
According to the ICPC source, the inspection of the N6.4 billion Inland River Port project and the N6.2 billion Federal Secretariat Complex were the first projects to be monitored in Lokoja.
He went on to say that all 21 LGAs in Kogi State would be included in the surveillance effort.
To make sure the people of Kogi State reap the benefits of federally supported projects, the commission said the program is a part of a larger effort to increase openness and responsibility in public procurement.
