Ifunanya Nwangene, a rapidly emerging star in Nigerian music, passed away due to the country’s inadequate healthcare system, according to Paul Ibe, a media advisor to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
According to Gistcon, the musician from Abuja, who was a soprano with the Amemuso Choir, passed away on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja after being bitten by a snake.
In response to the tragic event, Ibe wrote on Sunday on his official X Twitter that the young woman was “happened” by Nigeria.
He couldn’t understand why a public hospital in the nation’s capital wouldn’t have snake venom on hand.
“Ifunanya Nwangene, a 26-year-old singer on the rise, was not killed by a snake,” he wrote. Nigeria murdered her, or rather, as the saying goes, Nigeria befell her.
In what is widely believed to be a region of Nigeria with a high incidence of snakebite, it is inconceivable that a public hospital in the Federal Capital Territory lacks snake antivenom.
